Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is required for many modern diesel engines but is not considered motor fuel for IFTA reporting purposes.

Important Distinction #

DEF purchases:

• Are not fuel
• Are not taxable fuel
• Are not included in fuel gallon calculations

Recordkeeping #

Carriers should still maintain DEF purchase records for maintenance and operational purposes.
